HARRY MCQUEEN (ハリーマックイーン)

Our hero - er, sort of. Harry is the kind of kid who always got his ass kicked in school, who was always getting swirlies and wedgies and whom you really didn't notice until he did something wrong and everyone laughed at him. Harry wants to fit in and maybe even be noticed, so he joins basketball, he tries to do well in class, but he can't win.

Harry discovers his telekinetic/psychokinetic powers (I'll use the terms interchangeably) when he comes to the rescue of his classmate Catherine, who's about to be raped by some basketball players. But hints of his power are evident even before that event; when he gets angry and emotional, or thinks about something unpleasant, things tend to happen around him. But after he rescues Catherine, and manages to display his powers in front of her by bending a spoon, he starts using his powers with greater and greater frequency, mostly because Catherine is so impressed by them. He decides to go on a local variety show specializing in the occult (again - to be noticed, to impress someone), and that's when everything goes to hell.

Harry isn't the only person with psychokinetic powers in the story, but he and Ginori are markedly different in their use of the powers. Harry is very passive and gentle; he never directly attacks a human when he wants to stop them. When the basketball players were about to rape Catherine, he didn't shove them; he made a building behind them blow up to scare them off. In the school lockerroom, he made all the locker doors fly open and bent a knife in two to stop a knife fight, and so on and so forth. He never actually tried to use his powers on people. In contrast to that, Ginori has no qualms about using her powers to physically restrain or kill people who are threatening her or Harry. In addition to this more "hands-on" approach, Ginori also has greater control over her powers than Harry does - each use of Harry's power causes a psychic backlash that usually kills people in the vicinity.

And therein lies the problem - Harry likes having his unique powers, and thought that John was just jealous of him when John tried to warn him about the deaths. But when he realizes that he's been killing people with each use of his powers, he becomes scared of using them, which almost paralyzes him in dangerous situations. He's not really cut out to be either a hero or a villain - he's too timid and scared for either role.

Harry's powers are of great interest to a certain organization that dubs itself "ACCUSER" - they want to see if there's a genetic basis to his powers, and possibly utilize Harry's powers for their own ends. When they discover that his telekinetic ability is off the charts, they'll do anything to gain control over him.

But the real problems don't start until the real "ACCUSER" gets ahold of Harry's mind...
