A basketball game is going on in the high school. The ball gets thrown to a skinny, nervous-looking boy, who freezes, unable to decide what to do with it with all the conflicting advice being shouted at him. Suddenly he hears a girl in the audience scream, "Shoot the ball, Harry!" Harry blindly throws the ball at the basket, and the ball goes straight through the headboard and out the window, raining glass on the audience. The girl who had called to him and some other people are slightly injured by the falling glass, and they're rushed to the nurse's office.

After the game, the rest of the basketball team corners Harry in the showers and are kicking his ass. They're stopped by another basketball player, John, who apparently is the boyfriend of Catherine, the girl who had called to Harry. John tells the other guys to back off, it's not their problem, and they grudgingly leave. Afterwards, John and Catherine are walking outside the school, where Catherine insists that it's not Harry's fault that the glass fell. John grudgingly agrees, and then reminds Catherine of their date tonight. He says he'll pick her up at 6pm, and then he leaves. Unknown to them, the guys from the basketball team are listening in...

Harry's sitting hunched over on a bench, miserable. He thinks of the basketball players attacking him, and suddenly the fast-food drink cup next to him shivers and falls over. Elsewhere in town, a traffic light has fallen down, crashing into the hood of a police car driving underneath it. The police are perplexed. One of the officers comments that this isn't the first time this sort of strange thing has happened - but this isn't Sci-Fi, after all...

"Harry?" Harry looks up, and Catherine is standing in front of his bench. "What's wrong? You look a little ill." Harry stammers something, and then apologizes profusely to her. Catherine says it's not his fault - after all, she *was* the one who told him to shoot the ball. Harry stammers that that's not it, and Catherine encourages him to hang in there, he'll get it next time. She leaves (because her little brother is waiting alone at home), and Harry watches her go, flustered.

Catherine and John are making out in a parked car. (Seems that this is San Francisco - there's a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge...) Catherine stops them, and John good-naturedly goes to get them something to drink from a vendor, leaving Catherine alone in the car.

Harry's sitting on his bed, watching TV and thinking of the nice things Catherine said to him. Then he thinks he hears Catherine screaming somewhere, and he sits upright. John turns around and sees his truck zoom by, and Catherine's inside, being kidnapped by some guys in ski masks.

When they stop the truck, it turns out that it's the guys from the basketball tea. They're pulling off Catherine's pants as she struggles, and then they notice that someone's there - Harry's standing at the end of the alley, looking uncertain. He timidly asks them to stop it, and the ringleader punches him and tells him to shut the hell up. Harry slumps against the wall, and they basketball players go back to Catherine. Harry suddenly flashes on them constantly beating him up, and grabs his head in pain as there's a huge explosion from the building behind them. The basketball players are scared off, and Harry's white-faced and dripping with sweat.

John located Catherine, and Catherine went straight home, much to John's surprise. There are police all over the place because of the explosion. The two officers from the traffic light accident, Inspector Stanford and Detective Stuck, come walking up, explaining that they had a car accident. They also report that they've found a strange dead body...

Catherine has invited Harry to her house, taken care of his injuries, and is serving him tea. She asks him why he was in that area, and Harry mumbles that he doesn't know, but he felt she was in danger. She giggles and says she's not a cop, and she's not interrogating him. But then she thanks him for coming to help her, which of course embarrasses Harry. Catherine's little brother, Elliot, (who vaguely resembles Harry, and is also weak and sickly) is watching TV behind him, and a variety show hosted by "Miraculous Mick" comes on. Miraculous Mick is talking about psychokinesis and hidden potential, and as Catherine scolds Elliot for always being glued to the TV, Harry's paying attention to Mick's spiel. Mick is talking about spoon-bending, and Elliot is holding a spoon, concentrating on it. Harry looks at his own coffee spoon, picks it up, and - it bends easily. Everyone's startled, including Harry.

Inspector Stanford and Detective Stuck are examining the body of a prostitute - her head's been twisted a full 180 degrees. They dryly conclude that it was an an unnatural death, and say that a human couldn't have done this, only a gorilla or something would have enough strength. A new detective comes up, reporting another unusual body in the 5th precinct with the same cause of death - his head was completely twisted off. John, who's hearing this, suddenly realizes that Catherine's house is in the 5th precinct.

Back at Catherine's house, Harry's bent spoon after spoon after spoon, and Catherine's really impressed. "Wow, Harry! Nobody's going to be able to make fun of you now!"

Inspector Stanford asks Detective Stuck, "Bob, you're recently married, right?" Bob says he's been married for two weeks, and Stanford grimly says that perhaps he'd better not look at this, then. A mother walking her baby in a pram with a friend got her head twisted off, and it fell right into the open pram. It seems to be the work of the "Head-Twisting Murderer." Eight people in five days in this park...Stanford comments that the witness was a friend of the victim, and the poor child in the pram saw his mother killed before his own eyes. Elsewhere in the park, Elliot, Catherine, and Harry are having a picnic, and Harry bends another spoon for their amusement.

John scolds Catherine in the lockers, asking her why she didn't call him. Catherine protests that she was okay, but then the basketball players appear, saying that Catherine's been with *Harry* all this time. They're laughing and elbowing each other when John attacks the ringleader, knowing that he was behind all this. The ringleader, Chris, pulls a knife, and Catherine screams at them to stop, when all of the lockers suddenly fly open, sending papers into the air, and Chris's knife is bent like a straw. Harry's standing there, looking at his hand. "I did that...? Yes, I did that," he said slowly. Catherine runs to him and happily announces that Harry has supernatural powers. Chris and John are disbeliving, but they're interrupted by a scream outside their window. They look down, and a teacher walking under the window has had his head twisted off.

At the television station, Miraculous Mick is protesting about letting a new person on his variety show. "Who the hell is Harry McQueen, anyways?" His producer holds up a spoon where the stem has been bent into a full loop, and comments that Harry's the real deal - this isn't a trick spoon like Mick's. Harry comes in with Catherine, and Mick says that Harry's passed the camera test, he'll be taping in three days. He puts his hands on Harry's shoulders in a friendly way, holding up the spoon Harry bent. Suddenly he's shaking Harry. "Which hand did you use? Tell me!! What trick did you use? Please! Teach me how you did this! Please!" Mick has to be pried off Harry by the security guards, and as he's being hustled out, he screams, "I don't understand! Tell me! That was a great trick! I'll pay you, Harry! Shit! Just you wait, Harry, I'll see you in hell!" Harry, of course, is a little weirded out by all of this.

Elliot's sitting outside of his house, still trying to bend his spoon. John comes up, says hi, and asks if Catherine's home. Elliot says she's not here. They're interrupted by Stanford and Stack, who are investigating all the head-twisting murders in this precinct. John protests that this is a bit much for a single death at the high school, and the police toss him a copy of the newspaper. At home, John reads about the ten murders that have occured so far, and is shocked. In the background, the TV's on, and he sees an interview with Harry - he's gotten his own nickname, "Sci-Fi Harry." They show a peculiarly twisted spoon, and John flashes to the way one of the victims' necks was twisted in the same strange way. He puts two and two together, and is horrified.

That night, right before the show, Harry and Catherine are sitting in Harry's hotel suite. Catherine's commenting on how Harry's being treated like a big star, but Harry seems depressed. He says he's been thinking about what Mick said, and was wondering why Catherine was so nice to him. Is it because he resembles Elliot? He says he's hanging in there, just like she asked, but please, he wants to know what she really thinks. Catherine gives him a kiss.

Harry's being driven to the studio in a limo when he sees John outside the front gate, trying to get into and being stopped by security. He takes John to his room, and John shows him the newspaper, saying it all started on the day Catherine was attacked by Chris and the other basketball players. John points out that Harry used his powers to help Catherine, and at that park, and at the high school - "Don't you get it? The weird murders are being caused by your powers!"Harry stiffens, and the overhead light shatters and the room goes dark.

"You've got to stop using your powers! You don't have any control over them!"
"Is this because of Catherine?"
"NO!"
"It's my turn, John...I've always been watching - sports, studies, you could do it all - "
"Harry? What are you talking about?"
"And now, this is something only *I* can do - and now YOU'RE going to watch ME!"

The lights in the entire building blow out, and Harry stands over John, who's been knocked out. People rush in, and Harry flatly tells them to take John to the hospital.

Harry's getting his suit adjusted as the audience files in, and he looks sick with nerves. Catherine's there - the producer told her about what happened with John earlier. She's not happy, but Harry tells her to please stop, this is his big moment, and she should watch it! He's herded off by the TV people, and Catherine watches him, worried.

At the hospital, John runs into Stanford and Stuck, and explains his theory that the murders are being caused by badly controlled psychokinetic powers. They kind of laugh it off, saying that that means that there will be another body at the TV station, hm? John gets mad and says that Harry's going to use his powers on the show now! At that moment, Harry's being announced, and goes up the stairs to the stage...

Time of Death: 8:00 (approx), at the park

Time of Death: 4 pm, at the high school

Harry stands on the stage, petrified, as the audience watches. John's trying to rush the stage, but a tech holds him back, Suddenly his headphones snap off, and the tech reaches for them, confused. As John and the detectives watch, horrified, the man twists around like a corkscrew, screaming, and his neck breaks. Stanford concludes that it really does seem to be caused by psychokinesis...Stanford tells Bob Stuck to wait here(since he has a family and is going to become a father, or something), and Stanford and John run up the stairs towards the stage.

Onstage, Harry's concentrating on his spoon, furiously willing it to bend. As John and Stanford burst into the control room, Harry flexes his will and snaps the head of the spoon clean off, and home viewers are confused as the broadcast is interrupted by pure static. I believe John threw a chair at the controls to short them out, and he's being yelled at by a technician. Stanford catches up, and asks what happened. They go downstairs, and see Bob's dead body slumped against a wall. Stanford stops by his partner, and John runs past him to the stage where Harry's standing, blinded by the floodlights. In the audience, everyone's neck has been broken.

"Harry, you..."
Harry's dripping with sweat. "I....It wasn't me....it wasn't me!!" Catherine comes onstage and screams, and Harry stares at her, wild-eyed. "IT WASN'T ME!" he screams defensively, and the entire building explodes.

Stanford is trying to explain to his boss that the explosion wasn't a terrorist act, it was - "caused by this kid? Harry?" his boss says skeptically. "Psychokinesis killed 200 people? It was the explosion that did that."

Catherine wakes up in the hospital with John sitting next to her. She's apparently been out for three days, and John comments how it's weird that she wasn't hurt by the explosion, but hastily says that it doesn't mean anything. Catherine starts crying and says that this is all her fault, she's the one who encouraged Harry to use his powers.

"Where IS Harry now?"
Elsewhere, Harry's being slid into some kind of CT-scanner...

Time of Death: 8:30pm (approx), 3F of TV station

Elliot's sitting on his front lawn, staring at the spoon and trying to make it bend again. "Elliot," a voice says. He looks up, and a girl with braided hair is sitting on the tree-swing nearby. "You can do it, I'm sure, so keep trying..."

Harry's in the scanner, and two people are watching him through the windows.
"Can anyone really be that pale-skinned?"
"Just your type, huh Stanley?"
"Don't be silly. Looks like he's not a fake like Mick, huh, Kate."
"Well, you saw what he did...he's "the real deal"..."

Catherine holds up a spoon with the stem twisted into a spiral. "Wow, Harry!" He's standing on the stage, and snaps the head of the spoon off. He sees a lone body lying at the foot of the stage. He looks over the edge, and it's Catherine, with her head twisted off, blood dripping from her eyes and mouth.

Harry screams and wakes from his nightmare, and then realizes he's in a bed, wearing a straitjacket. Kate leans over the bed and coos that it looks like he's telekinetic, so he'll just have to hang in there for a little longer. A flowerpot next to her explodes, and she tells him to be careful as Stanley injects Harry with a tranquilizer. Harry passes out, and Kate scolds Stanley. He retorts that he just didn't want Harry to twist their heads off.

At Catherine's house, John has gotten a videotape of Harry's performance. There's something strange that he's noticed about it, and he wants Catherine to see. They watch Harry standing on the stage with the spoon, and John slo-mo's the video and pauses it at the second Harry starts to bend the spoon. "There!" They look at the screen, and Harry's figure seems oddly blurred, as if there are two of him overlapping. "I don't know what it is...but there's something there..." There's a shadowy figure behind them in the room, but when Catherine turns around, nobody's there. John decides to go to the TV station and try to get the master tape of the show. Catherine waves him off, and then goes into the backyard, looking for Elliot. Elliot proudly shows her a bent spoon - "Look! Just like Harry's!"

At the TV station, Miraculous Mick is leaving just as John's entering. John hunts down the producer of the show, Lyle, who looks incredibly nervous and twitchy. He says that there's no master tape - it got destroyed in the explosion. He twitches some more, and says that that was real telekinesis, wasn't it?

"Mick said as much. He also talked about "old friend."

This, of course, makes no sense to John, but Lyle tells him to look it up in a dictionary and leaves. John leaves, figuring he hasn't learned anything, but he's stopped by FBI agents and interrogated before Inspector Stanford comes to his rescue and leads him off. In Stanford's car, John recieves a cellphone call from Lyle, who asks them to come to his house, because he thinks he can pass to them the thing they want.

Harry wakes up in the darkened room, still in his straitjacket. He feels dizzy from whatever drugs they've been giving him. Then he notices that Stanley is in the room. Stanley, apparently, does like his boys thin and pale and scrawny, because he drips some more of the drug into Harry's eye and starts working at Harry's clothing while Harry feebly struggles. Then Stanley notices that Harry's gone almost catatonic with fear, trembling and zombie-like, just before the building explodes again.

Stanford and John arrive at Lyle's house - too late. He's been killed by the Head-Twisting Killer, and Stanford concludes that Harry must have killed him. But in the bag next to him is a book, probably "the thing they want." John remembers that Lyle had told him to look up "old friend" in a dictionary, and he excitedly tells Stanford to look in the dictionary Lyle had left them. Stanford says that this isn't a real dictionary - it's the so-called "Devil's Dictionary" by Ambrose Bierce. They look at the page Lyle had marked, which indeed has "former friend" on it:

(note: this required some extrapolation on my part between the Japanese and English Devil's Dictionaries - the phrasing varies between the two languages.)
ACC.USE: to make public the knowledge of an old friend's sin, most commonly as a justification of ourselves for having wronged him.

"Accuser..."

Harry lies on the floor of a forest, semi-conscious. He hears footsteps coming towards him, and when he looks up, a girl about his age with two braids is leaning over him, smiling. "Are you all right?"

The girl asks him again if he's all right, and Harry stammers that he is. He sits up and nervously asks who she is. She giggles and says, "Asking someone's name is a bad way to introduce yourself!" Harry apologizes, and says that his name is Harry. The girl smiles, offers him a hand up, and says that her name is Ginori.

Kate is on the phone, yelling at her security people for being unable to locate Harry. The search group located the bodies of twelve Dobermans on the grounds, all with their heads twisted off. Kate reminds Stanley that Harry had been his responsibility, and Stanley looks nervous. She also mentions that "Meryl" had requested Harry's genetic information, and that they, ACCUSER, sought to use Harry's unparalleled psychic abilities.

Stanford and John are waiting on the steps of Lyle's house, while the FBI takes care of the rest. John asks Stanford why on earth the FBI is involved, and Stanford has no idea. Apparently Mick had been to the house right before they, so the FBI was looking for him.

Harry and Ginori are walking hand-in-hand - or, more accurately, Ginori's leading Harry by the hand.
"Interesting! So after you lick the chocolate out, then what?"
"I eat it...is that weird?"
"Okay...so what do you do with an Oreo?"
"I take it apart and lick the cream out...?"
Ginori bursts into giggles. "I do that too! Wow, Harry, you're just like a kid sometimes."
"Am I weird or something...?"
Ginori stops and turns to face him. "You're not weird, Harry...Harry, can we be friends?"
"Sure," Harry says uncomfortably.
"Don't betray me, then..."
"Huh?"
She smiles. "Let's go! It's just a little further down the road."

At Catherine's house, the phone is ringing, but she's in the showe and doesn't answerr. John's calling her as he drives, and when she doesn't answer, Stanford says that they should go to her house, since Mick is probably seeking to manipulate Harry by any means necessary. Catherine finally gets out of the shower, wondering why Elliot didn't pick up the phone, and Miraculous Mick grabs her from behind.

Harry stops suddenly. "Catherine! It's just like that time before, something's wrong..." Ginori sighs and looks down. "You idiot..." Harry looks around, but she's suddenly disappeared.

Kate gets on a helicopter, talking to her boss on her cellphone. Her boss tells her to wipe out Harry completely.

Harry arrives at Catherine's house, panting from the long run. He goes inside the darkened house, and Mick hits him over the head, knocking him to the ground. Mick is holding Catherine hostage, and is waving a gun at Harry. "I don't approve of you, Harry! I absolutely don't approve of your powers! I won my status through hard work! The world doesn't need you!" He aims at Harry, and Harry concentrates, twisting Mick's arm with his powers. Suddenly he remembers his nightmare of Catherine with her head twisted off, and he freezes in terror, releasing Mick. Mick screams that Harry's a demon. Elliot runs to the open door, and Mick turns and shoots at Elliot.

Catherine screams, but the bullet suddenly veers off, turns around, and hits Mick in the leg. Mick's gunhand is being crushed by what looks like inhumanly strong fingers, indenting his arm in finger-shaped marks. Then the invisible hands twist Mick's leg around, knocking him to the ground. Mick begins crying and begging Harry for mercy, but Harry stammers that he's not doing anything, he swears. Mick suddenly sees a shadow at the window, a shadow with two ponytails or braids, and he screams as his head is twisted straight off. Harry begins to cry, saying that he is a demon, after all, but they hear the beating of a helicopter directly overhead...
