  • BA - (Egyptian) The personification of the "soul" or "energy" that lives in the body without being attached to it. According to Egyptian belief, when a person died, their ba emerged and flew away, but the body had to remain so that the ba could return. People left food for the ba in tombs as well. It usually was shown as a bird or a human-headed bird.
  • BAAL - (Canaanite) Baal, whose name means "lord" or "owner," was a fertility god whose worship was widespread throughout Mesopotamia and Canaan. Since he was a fertility god, and his worship involved Naughty Practices and the occasional child-sacrifice, the early Israelite priests frowned upon his worship and wrote scathing passages that you can read in the Bible. In truth, however, his worship was widespread, even among the kings of the Tribes of Israel.
  • BACCHUS - (Roman) The child of Jupiter by a Human woman (Semele in the Greek version), Bacchus was the Roman God of Wine. His Greek counterpart is Dionysus.
  • BARBATOS - (Judeo-Christian) One of the 72 spirits of Solomon. As the 8th spirit, he is said to appear when the sun is in the constellation Saggitarius. According to Crowley, he was originally of the Order of Virtues. As a Great Duke in Hell, Barbatos has command over 30 legions of spirits. (Goetia)
  • BEELZEBUB - (Judeo-Christian) The prince of evil spirits and Satan's chief lieutenant in Milton's Paradise Lost. Although his name is commonly translated as "The Lord of the Flies," apparently it's also a parody of "Baal-Zebul," one of the names of the Canaanite god Baal (see Baal).
  • BELLICOSITY - (original) The personification of the Cardinal Sin "Wrath."
  • BENNU - (Egyptian) A sacred bird, probably a heron, that sprang from Osiris' chest and served as a sacred creature of Heliopolis. It represented the ressurected soul of the god Osiris, and is likely the basis for the myth of the Phoenix.
  • BERITH - (Judeo-Christian) The 28th spirit bound by Solomon. Said to have the form of a soldier dressed in red, riding a red horse and wearing a crown of gold. He is supposedly capable of answering any question regarding past, present, or future, and turning metals into gold. According to the Dictionary of Angels, he is the one time prince of the Cherubim. He is also identified as the devil of alchemists, due to his ability to turn metals to gold.
  • BERSERKER - (Norse) Norse warriors who fought in a frenzied state and could not be harmed by weapons. The name supposedly means "one who wears a bearskin." They were usually associated with the god Odin.
  • BISHAMONTEN - (Buddhist) Bishamonten is actually the Buddhist deity Tamonten, one of the Four Heavenly Kings. As one of the Seven Gods of Good Luck, however, he is a god of prosperity. He wears armour and carries a spear and pagoda. Bishamonten is also the same the Hindu god Vaisravana. He guards the North and listens to sutras and protects holy places. His material card is "Chess Piece" in English, but in Japanese, it was something like "Shogi piece." There's a Shogi piece call the "Hisha", so they're probably making a pun. Bishamonten, Hishamonten...HAHAHA! THEY MADE A FUNNY!
  • BLACK WIDOW - (original) A witch that can take the form of a poisonous black spider. Portrayed as a woman with a black spider riding on her head, or just as the completely black spider itself.
  • BLACK MAN - (original) Appeared in Shin Megami Ibunroku Persona. A person who had a portion of their body turned into a machine by SEBEC. They are called this because their whole bodies are blackened.
  • BLOB - (original) In English, a word that means "half-solid mass". As the name specifies, a half-solid, half-liquid soft-bodied being. More solid than a slime. Its origins are thought to be from the living thing that appears in the movie "Blob: It Came From Outer Space".
  • BRAHMA - (Hindu) As part of the "Hindu Triad", Brahma is the Creator. He is depicted as having four heads, and four arms (which are used to hold the four Vedas, the Hindu Scriptures). In modern times, Brahma is regarded as the god of Wisdom.
  • BRES - (Celtic) The god of fertility and agriculture, who became king of the gods after Nodens lost his hand. He became tyrannical and was deposed by Nodens after Nodens gained a silver hand and lead a rebellion against him. He was spared in return for teaching Ireland agriculture.
  • BRIGHIT - (Celtic) The daughter of the Celtic god Dagda, she is the goddess of smiths, poets, and doctors. Later, she was assimilated into the Christian religion as a Saint.
  • BUKIMI-CHAN - (Japanese) A high school rumor demon similar to Hanako-san. She lives in the high school toilet, and when a person has finished their business, she asks them to pick a color of paper - red, blue, or white. Whatever color they pick is the color of toilet paper that Bukimi-chan (bukimi mean weird or creepy) hands them. Of course, this may be the "sanitized" version of the tale, which was probably like the story of Akamanto or Aomanto.
  • BYAKHEE - (Lovecraft) The servants of Hastur. (See Hastur)
  • BYAKKO - (Chinese) One of the four occult Chinese gods. Byakko takes the form of a white tiger. Byakko rules over the element of air, the season autumn, and the direction west.
