  • GANESHA - (Hindu) Ganesha is the Hindu god of good luck and fortune, who removes all obstacles from the paths of his devotees. He is the son of Siva and Parvati, and he has the head of an elephant (for various reasons; either his father Siva cut off his natural head in anger, or the god of misfortune, Saniswara, accidentally made it fall off when Parvati DEMANDED that Sani bless her new son). He is the elder brother of the war god Skanda. In his four hands he carries a conch shell, a elephant goad, a noose (to sever your ties with the ego), and a bowl of sweets (his fondness for these sweets is legendary.) Sometimes he is holding the broken end of his tusk in his fourth hand; he broke off one of his tusks (1) to use as a pen to write the epic poem Mahabharata as it was dictated to him, or (2) he lost his tusk in a fight with the rather impatient sage Parashurama, who wanted to see Siva IMMEDIATELY even though Ganesha delicately hinted that his mother and father were 'sleeping now.'

Minamoto was about to punish Tadanobu as a traitor when his sister arrived - with a man who looked exactly like Sato Tadanobu. Confused, Minamoto asked his sister who was the real Sato. She didn't know, but remembered that Sato seemed to appear magically at her side when she beat upon the antique drum she had been carrying with her. She beat upon the drum, and the second Sato turned into a fox. The fox explained that a thousand years ago, there had been a drought, and the villagers had caught a pair of foxes, skinned them, and made them into a drum that they successfully used to pray for rain. This fox was the son of those two foxes, and had followed that drum for a thousand years because he wanted to be close to his parents. Touched by the fox's filial devotion, Minamoto gave the fox a full name - Yoshitsune Genkurou - and gives the drum to the fox as a reward for protecting his sister. The fox thanks him and lets him know that someone is going to attack his mansion tonight - but the fox has set up magical defenses to protect Minamoto's hideout. That night, the fox drives off the attackers and disappears with his drum.
