JACK FROST - (English) The spirit of the frost that comes with the advent of winter. He has the cute appearance of a snowman, and although he is generally has an innocent personality, if you anger him, he will freeze you to death. Since his body is made of frost and snow, he melts when spring comes.

JACK O'LANTERN - (English) A supernatural fire that appears in Cornwall in the southwestern part of England, also known as the Will o' the Wisp. It usually leads travellers astray at night. It is generally thought to be the soul of someone who wasn't good enough for Heaven, but not bad enough for Hell, so the spirit stays upon earth. At Halloween, the hollowed-out pumpkin lanterns are also called Jack O' Lanterns.

JAHI - (Zoroastrian) A demoness that is the daughter of the evil Ahriman/Anra Mainyu. Jahi supposedly controls women's menses and is the patron demon of prostitutes. In Russia, she is known as the hag Baba Yaga, and in Czechoslovakia, she was known as Jezibaba. She also also been compared to the Biblical Jezebel.

JANUS - (Roman) The Roman god of gateways, entrances, and exits. He is typically portrayed as having two faces facing opposite directions. The month of January is named after him.

JEALOUSY - (original) The personification of the Cardinal Sin "Envy."

JUMPING JIJII - (original) A rumor demon in the Giga Macho in Tsumi. The rumor came from a hiker who saw an old man leaping from tree to tree on Mt. Katatsumuri. That "jumping jijii" was actually the head of the monks on Katatsumuri, who heroically defended their monastery from the Last Battalion. The monks are experts at martial arts.
